  • Include garlic and onions in your diet. These foods contain quercetin and mustard oils, which have been shown to inhibit an enzyme that aids in releasing inflammatory chemicals.
  • Include "green drinks" in your daily diet. Take them three times a day, one half hour before meals.
  • Avoid gas-producing foods, such as beans, brassicas, and large amounts of bran. These items do not help asthma control.
  • Do not eat ice cream or drink extremely cold liquids. Cold can shock the bronchial tubes into spasms.
  • Use an elimination diet to see if certain foods aggravate the asthmatic condition. Common culprits include alfalfa, corn, peanuts, soy, eggs, beets, carrots, colas, cold beverages, dairy products, fish, red meat, processed foods, salt, spinach, chicken and turkey, white flour, and whit sugar. Asthma control depends largely on diet.
  • Try and get plenty of exercise. If you find exercise can induce an asthma attack, try taking vitamin C one hour befor eyour workout (check with a physician on how much).
  • Try to eliminate most of the salt from your diet, this is very important for asthma control.
  • Practice methods to relieve stress. Stress and strong emotions like worry and fear can trigger an asthma attack.
  • If you suspect that dust mites are causing your asthma symptoms, try to get rid of the microscopic bugs with some of the good vacuum cleaners on the market.
